Victoria Ramsay
Painting En Plein Air in Kerrville Texas
Victoria Ramsay spent over two decades as a professional ballerina performing soloist roles throughout Europe and the United States. She returned to her native Mississippi to marry the love of her life who encouraged her to pursue painting as a creative outlet. Her worldly experiences, mentors and peers have greatly influenced her understanding of movement and creativity in painting.
Victoria’s chosen medium is oil and she describes her style as representational and forever developing. Her love of interesting people, nature, travel, local farmers markets and historical places have given her plenty of inspiration for her paintings. Victoria states, “The ballerina in me knew that the discipline of my past plus my studies of the old masters and todays contemporary artists would mold me as an artist. Like these masters, I mostly paint my landscapes and still life paintings from life which allows me to keep an intimate and fresher approach to the creative process in my paintings that gives them that special touch.”
Victoria credits her mentors the late Joe Anna Arnett, Roger Dale Brown, Matt Smith and Bob Tompkins and so many others as a crucial part of her development as an artist.
Victoria’s paintings have been seen in National and Local Juried Art Shows including but not limited to OPA's Eastern National Show in Charleston and AIS small works show in California. Locally Victoria's paintings have been awarded 1st and 2nd place and have been awarded honorable mentions. The Mississippi Governors Mansion acquired one of her paintings for the living quarters which holds Mississippi artists.
Victoria has been a board member of the Mississippi Oil Painter's Association most recently as President, and Vice President of Meetings and Events. She has organized many workshops both locally and internationally including Bob Tompkins Studios, Mississippi Oil Painters Association and Plein Air South America in Ecuador to name a few.
She is a member of The Oil Painters of America, The American Impressionist Society, National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society, Mississippi Oil Painters Association, Mississippi Plein Air Painters, and Mississippi Artists Guild.
Victoria and her husband Alan live out in the country in beautiful Flora, Mississippi with their 3 rescue dogs.
